How do I use it?
Quality & Provenance
Quality & Provenance:
The fierce spirulina thrives in a hostile environment, deadly to most microorganisms. So it can be organically farmed without need for chemical pesticides to sterilise it. Ours is grown on an island in the South China Sea – surrounded by rich forest, protected from urban or agricultural pollution.
We rigorously test for mercury, lead and other contaminants, guaranteeing a pure product without risk of heavy metal poisoning. We also test the growing ponds daily for pH value and optical density.
Spirulina is harvested with a fine mesh-screen that captures the small coiled filaments from the water. It’s then sieved and transferred to a washing pond, before being washed over a mesh-screen, ensuring that only pure spirulina is processed. This wet spirulina is placed in a drying chamber which quickly evaporates all the moisture, while preserving the nutrient content, leaving the fine green powder which we package for you.

Good tasting spirulina
I have tried spirulina from many different sources, this is one of the best. If mixed with a little fruit juice it is quite palatable. Spirulina is a super food that also helps the body detoxify, according to my research.
Chlorella and Spirulina Powder
Great genuine high standard products. The only improvement would be a different type of bag the powder comes in as you have to reach over half way down inside the bag before you get to the powder, which is not only a waste of plastic but also leaves your hand covered in green powder.
Quality query
3 stars is a neutral score because I can't really comment. My packet is batch no. W04491 and I've used it twice in a smoothie which tasted fine. I've just been reading about the importance of checking quality assurance and for smell and Harvard medical news did a review in 2021 to say that this process is not well regulated nor guaranteed nutritional content as written on the packet and I just noticed the review from 10th Jan. My packet smells a strong earthy-ish sea-like smell, not quite fishy, but it's strong and can't quite place the smell to describe, and about half a dessert spoon didn't taste of anything in the smoothie. Are Naturya able to comment on and provide any further information on their current quality assurance checks (I've seen what's on the website) and how they assess nutritional content? How would you describe the smell and taste of this type of spirulina? Which species is/are used in this powder?
I love spirulina
I take spirulina every morning in a glass of orange juice. I love the taste of it, and can definitely see the benefits of taking it everyday. My energy levels have increased and it's made a big difference to my skin. Will definately continue to use.
Too fishy!
I like naturya products and usually recommend them due to their fair price however I really wanted to add spirulina to my diet but this one and I’ve tried it twice now had a strong, pungent smell. I read that if spirulina has a strong fish smell, it could mean it has a high bacteria count. High bacteria from fermented nutrients means it is poor and inconsistent quality spirulina. I’m so disappointed. I won’t be buying this one again. Im throwing it away. I tried another quality brand and it’s pleasant to drink in water. I read other reviews and I know I’m not the first to say this.
